Career Coaching & Professional Development
Career Coaching. ‘Loading the dice in your favor’
There are a number of justifiable reasons to engage the services of a career coach; resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills and how to conduct a job search are the standard services provided. Our approach to career coaching however, goes far beyond these basic mandates. This is because in order for you to expedite and attain your career goals, you need a full understanding of how the mechanics of the hiring process operates. And critically, your role within it. Most career coaches focus only on the tip of the iceberg. We understand that to facilitate a career strategy with a successful outcome, requires us to dive deep below the surface in order to identify what’s really going on. And, what lurks beneath the surface requires a shift in thinking that goes far beyond the conventional paradigm of a slick resume, cover letter and polished heels.
Our team is made up of Hiring Managers, HR Executives and Professional Sales Management Coaches. These three distinct disciplines are interdependent and essential to providing you with the knowledge and skills you’ll need to execute a successful career strategy with a favorable outcome.
The majority of individuals enter the job search market without fully understanding how the hiring process works. This results in a laborious and haphazard endeavor with a disappointing conclusion. Yet, despite a string of failed applications, individuals repeat the process in the hope of being the lucky one drawn from a pool of hundreds. Traditional thinking is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. So, what are some of the things job seekers do wrong?
- Over-using the internet to find employment.
- Reluctance to step outside one’s comfort zone.
- Failure to understand the impact of syndicated hiring decisions.
- Not understanding how parsing software eliminates applications.
- Failing to realize HR is your enemy.
- Conducting a job search in pajamas.
- Constructing a self-centered resume.
- Confusing a cover letter with a marketing letter.
- Focusing on the Recruiter and not the Hiring Manager.
- Mixing up candidate needs with Hiring Manager needs.
- Failure to control and direct the dialogue during the interview.
- Failure to understand the job search as a sales problem.
Your 12-step solution to the 12-step problem
Our team have designed a pliable 12-step career strategy for job seekers at any level in any industry. Our solution is counter-intuitive, innovative and specifically designed to load the dice in your favor.
The gap between exiting one job and entering another can be long and costly. There are many variables that affect the job search. It is difficult to average out the time spent on a job search; it is different for everyone. However, two months is considered quick and five months is not unusual. For a candidate with a baseline salary of $50,000 a five month job search costs that individual $20,833 in lost income. Factor into the equation the high risks associated with not having the security of medical benefits or life insurance for self and family, and the acute consequences can become chronic. Once a job search does become chronic, individuals are tempted to accept positions far below their value. Past clients have included PhD level professionals who, following a major downsizing, accepted minimum wage retail jobs because of failed career strategies. These individuals rationalized this action as 'holding jobs', a temporary state until something better became available. But, it is easy to let the quick-sand take hold and this temporary state was still temporary one year later!
The purpose of our 12 step program is two-fold; to shorten your job search as much as possible and consequently, minimize your loss of potential income. And, to provide you with tools you'll need in order to be considered for offers that are within the boundaries of your professional and financial parameters. Based on the $50,000 example, a single month of time saved in your job search translates into $4,166. Two months saved is $8,332.
Our objective is to create for our clients, the shortest direct pathway toward employment. Through our hardcore approach to the soft-skills, we load the dice in our clients favor. When you roll the dice you’ll find your numbers will come up with greater frequency that would otherwise be possible.
